Q Harold Mariani, an internal consultant with one of the large accounting firms, was transferred to work in his firm’s Mexico City office for nine months. His immediate supervisor, who was Mexican, assigned him a week long project. After the boss described the project, Harold told him that he didn’t think it was a good idea and that it would be a waste of his, and the company’s, time. Angered by Harold’s reaction, his supervisor tells him to implement the project anyway and storms out of the office. Why was the supervisor so angry?

I think that the supervisor was angry because Harold Mariani had disrespected his immediate Mexican supervisor. Moreover, Harold did not behave in a professional manner by directly stating that the idea was not a good one and the week long project would be a complete waste of time for the company and for Harold. This was quite arrogant and rude on Harold’s part as he should have acted and behaved in a more responsible manner to his supervisor than he actually did. If Harold had thought that the project was useless and a complete waste of time then he could have suggested that there should be some other project or he could have put forward his opinion to his supervisor by justifying with valid reasons that the proposed project by his supervisor would not be fruitful because of some valid reasons.
